A first watching tower in Nassogne
Looking at the landscape differently and, perhaps, observing the wildlife under high voltage (HV) lines from a specially designed watching tower...is now possible under an Elia HV line in the commune of Nassogne! This communication action is a part of the LIFE Elia-RTE project. It aims to raise public awareness on biodiversity issues and to underline the efforts made under the Elia network.
Several communication tools
In addition to concrete actions in the field, the LIFE Elia-RTE team carries out communication actions of several types: a website, 8 leaflets, 38 on site didactic panels, 10 brochures compiling experiences related to the project, lectures and press articles, brochures for other European electricity transport system operators... and also the creation of 3 watching towers in the Walloon Region.
The first watching tower in Nassogne
It was under the snow of beginning 2017 that the construction of the first area of vision was completed! This wooden construction (local Douglas wood, labeled PEFC) with the original and aesthetic concept fits perfectly into its wooded environment and has been located in a clear place.
Wooden piles mask the arrival of visitors and symbolize one of the objectives of the LIFE: keep a controlled place with the trees under the HT lines.
The company Etienne Lorent drew the plans and carried out the construction on site, after obtaining the compulsory building permit for such constructions. A ramp for people with reduced mobility is also planned.
Two didactic panels will soon be placed in the watching tower and will allow to explain in words this landscape which that will be visible through the openings.
A future inauguration and two other areas of vision to come!
Coming in 2017: the official inauguration of the area of vision, but also the construction of two other visitor areas in Lierneux and Bertrix-Paliseul.
A real plus for these municipalities, as they see a new hot spot area created in a rather special environment ... under high-voltage lines!
