LIFE Elia-RTE presentation at BESTGRID meeting
The modernization and expansion of the European electricity network are important to enable the transition of the energy system in Europe from a dependence on fossil fuels to renewable energy. However, planning and implementation of network development projects are often difficult because they take time and face local opposition, complex authorization procedures and environmental challenges.
Launched in April 2013, the project BESTGRID addresses these problems by putting into perspective development projects of innovative European network. BESTGRID is the result of close cooperation between environmental non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and Transmission System Operators (TSOs) of the United Kingdom, Belgium and Germany.
LIFE Elia-RTE presentation
The LIFE Elia-RTE team presented the project, trying to bring a vision to answer the question: What can the NGOs do to contribute to the integration of climate and nature concerns in the context of the extension of the network?
The LIFE Elia-RTE project itself was established by two NGOs: Solon and CARAH . The presentation was focused on results that can provide better collaboration between NGOs and TSOs under the LIFE project: better mutual understanding, involvement of local partners, improving local landscapes, reconciling green energy and biodiversity.
More largely, this collaboration can be successful by finding win-win solution.
