Official inauguration of the viewpoint in Nassogne

On May 19th 2017, with the Walloon Minister René Collin, Humberto Delgado from the European Commission, Ilse Tant from Elia, Jean-Pierre Scohy from the Department of Nature and Forests and Jean-François Lesigne from RTE, the LIFE Elia-RTE project inaugurated its first viewpoint in Nassogne. This event was organized thanks to the support of the European Commission following the Natura 2000 Award received by the project in 2016.

Observe nature and raise public awareness

This new viewpoint is part of the communication actions of the LIFE Elia-RTE. The project carries out a number of ecological improvements under the high-voltage lines, and also seeks to provide the general public with an opportunity to understand what is being done for nature!

From this viewpoint located in Nassogne, it is now possible to observe local wildlife. Two didactic panels placed inside the viewpoint explain the objectives and actions of the LIFE Elia-RTE.

A festive event relayed by the press

A total of 32 guests and a class of 15 children from the 5th grade of Grune School were present for the event. For the children, a pedagogical visit was organized on the theme of life in the pond and recognition of bird songs.

Thanks to their support and despite the rain, 100 shrubs of indigenous species were planted near the parking lot of the vision area.

An official visit was also organized for all, and a speech session allowed all the protagonists of the project to present their views on the LIFE Elia-RTE project.

And finally the viewpoint was inaugurated in the late morning! An event followed by the press, including the television report of TV Lux.

There was a clear emphasis on the importance of the high-voltage linear network in strengthening the ecological network and the diversity of human contacts to carry out such a project. For Elia and RTE, it was also an opportunity to demonstrate their respective will to continue the adventure on new areas as early as 2018.

A local wooden construction that fits into the forest

Made of local wood by the company Etienne Lorent, the design of this structure allows it to be integrated in the forest environment that surrounds it. Access for the disabled is also available.

Two other viewpoints will soon be built in Bertrix and Lierneux.
