Visit organised by the municipalities union
Tuesday 14th of October, the Union of cities and municipalities of Wallonia organized in Nassogne a study day for around 50 municipality representatives.
Certification, tourism and biodiversity
Three subjects were addressed during morning sessions : forest certification, public infrastructures for tourism in forest and nature conservation as it is targeted in our LIFE project.
Tourism and LIFE
Nassogne, a municipality located at the doorstep of the wooded area of Saint-Hubert, has developed for long now a policy based on welcoming the public : signage trails, area for eating and resting, viewing towers, and outings for deer rut walks.
Nassogne was also very much concerned by a previous LIFE named LIFE Tourbières (peat) (2003-2007) and now hosts the LIFE Elia on a stretch of 6 km long.
Municipalities : major partners
For us, it was an unique opportunity to present the project to a wide audience of municipality representatives, and to demonstrate positive effects of the LIFE Elia on promoting biodiversity, establishing partnership with public owners and forest administration, anticipating post-LIFE management and offering advantages to the hunting sector.
A new approach of the relation between the Belgian TSO, Elia, and one of its major interlocutor : municipalities.
