Setting up databases
The scale and the geographical diversity of the project are such that numerous owners and stakeholders will be affected. Structuring this volume of information in the form of several databases will therefore be a more useful way of effectively managing every facet of the project.
Several different categories of databases have been defined:
- A3a. Summary of information on the standard and innovative management techniques which will be used
Includes: all information relating to restoration techniques (standard and innovative) which could be used as part of the LIFE project: tree species to be favoured in edges or in orchards; rotary cutting and mowing techniques and those for creating ponds; and the competent firms to undertake these types of work.
- A3b. Developing a database of owners and managers
Involves: direct stakeholders (owners, managers) and indirect stakeholders (rights holders and others) related to the management of forest corridors. We will be able to gather together the addresses of private landowners via the land registry, those of natural reserve managers through combining mapping layers and those of the Department for Nature and Forestry (DNF) agents through contact already made with the heads of the ranges during the drafting phase of the present project. Holders of hunting licences will be determined via contact with their respective hunting committees.
- A3c. Developing a database of contacts related to communication actions
Communication is very important in a project such as this one that involves multiple players. In order to best share the results of the project, a database linked to communication is being created. It will include:
- Contact persons with local and regional media
- Persons with links to publications for the LIFE project
- Subcontractors
- District officers in the districts concerned
- European electricity transmission system operators
- Interested parties (i.e. any person who expresses an interest in the project and who wishes to be kept up to date with proposed activities).
Any interesting websites consulted during the project will be listed, along with the subjects that they deal with.
