Brochure n°2 - Cost_benefit analysis

A vegetation management biodiversity-friendly being 1.4 to 3.9 less expensive than traditional management over 30 years!

In order to establish a clear economic assessment of the different vegetation management methods, a cost-benefit analysis was conducted jointly by Elia, the Transmission System Operator (TSO) of electricity in Belgium and the LIFE Elia-RTE team.

The objective is to compare the conventional management (maintenance of the corridor by rotary milling or manual clearings) and alternative management (structured forest edges, grazing, mowing, restoration of natural habitats Natura 2000...) from a financial point of view but also considering other benefits. The comparison was conducted based on a 30-year period, taking into account inflation and updating costs.
